About 200 high school teens showed up for "The Rock" (a 4 times a year event). I was speaking on Social Media (same talk as in Los Angeles). Here's a few feedback items:
--Earlier this year when Father had been talking with them about social media they shared with him their concern and feeling a bit trapped by their social media use: "It's taking over our lives...."
--NONE of these teens are on Facebook when I asked for a show of hands. (Very similar to Los Angeles--minus the accompanying groans!) I wonder if Mark Zuckerberg is aware of this. I went through a bunch of social media platforms asking for a show of hands. When I said "Facebook"? Stony silence, folded arms.
--After we covered the upside of new media, we talked about the downside. The first thing (the group of geeks) said: "It's an escape from the real world." (A first!)
--When I asked about the different presences of God in the world (in another talk unrelated to media), one girl said cheerily: "Art!" (another first--usually it's: nature, the Bible, church, people)
